Fondazione Roma is a private institution that works to support social and economic progress. This Foundation is the historical continuation of Rome's Mount of Piety established in 1539 for the purpose of preventing usury and of the savings bank, Cassa di Risparmio di Roma, which intentionally incorporated the pawnbroking institution in 1937. Whilst still pursuing the original philanthropic goals, the Fondazione Roma is now a modern 'operating foundation' that implements projects with considerable social impact in support of five main sectors: Health, Art and Culture, Education, Scientific Research and Aid to the Underprivileged. The Foundation enthusiastically pursues the operative strategy of forming partnerships and working in synergy with other local institutions and stakeholders in order to produce efficient, flexible, dynamic and transparent solutions to the community's needs.
